There are many reasons one may seek out personal growth. Perhaps a new career is on the horizon, or one has decided to head back to school, there are a number of large life changes that can help a person grow as an individual. However, these situations can often be stressful. To deal with the stress in a healthy way, one must not forget the necessity of self-care.

Exercise and Eating Right

Stress can take a heavy toll on the body. This is especially true for those in addiction recovery, as stress can often lead to the temptation to relapse. Exercise is a good counter to stressors for a number of reasons. Not only does it make you feel better physically, your brain gets a boost from the chemicals released, but also from the natural response to exercise: breathing deeply. Yoga is a good choice for your exercise regimen, but so is Tai Chi, Qigong, or even just walking. Eating well can impact how you feel, too. It's easy to grab something pre-made, either from the store or fast food, especially when we're feeling pressed. Instead, take the time to make a fresh, mineral and vitamin-rich meal. Supplements such as magnesium can help you relax while foods and drinks containing caffeine, alcohol and processed sugars can increase these negative feelings.

Put Your Needs First

To properly see to your own needs, you may need to refocus your priorities. Take some time and decide what is important and what you need to do to relax. Sometimes, we need to cut back on some of our commitments to do so, and that is OK. After all, you deserve to be happy, and do things that fuel that happiness. Your journey toward personal growth may eventually lead to happiness, but don't put how you currently feel on the back burner. Make time to do something you truly enjoy, simply because you enjoy it. It may help to make a list of small things that make you happy or relax you. Make sure you're checking off something from this list frequently to ensure you're seeing to your own wellness.

Socialize on Your Terms

It can be difficult to find a suitable time to catch up with friends as we age. Everyone is working, or busy with their own families. However, having one chat over a cup of coffee a week can have lasting impact on our mental health. By catching up with those closest to us, we may have a greater sense of contentment in life. Not only that, but it's fun to see our friends and spend time together. That being said, you should not always be the one to compromise on time to see a friend. If you're too busy, say, Saturday, and the only way to meet up would be to sacrifice an hour of sleep, it might be a good idea to postpone until next week. It may be difficult to say no at first, especially to someone you care about, but be as honest with them as you can be.

Calm Yourself

It may not be obvious at first, but practicing ways to calm yourself down is important. This could mean starting up a yoga practice as mentioned, or it could mean taking a long bath full of essential oils to help you relax. When we put our own needs first and take time to actively lower our stress and heart rate, we improve the quality of our lives. Find something that helps your body to let go of tension and practice that not only when you feel stressed, but as a daily ritual. The repetition may help you ward off stress before it crops up.

You need to take care of yourself during any time of additional stress. While working toward personal growth is important and a worthwhile goal, the change it brings can cause additional anxieties to surface. By practicing self-care each day, you may have a more positive, happier experience than you might otherwise.

TIME FOR YOURSELF: THE MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF SELF-CARE

HEALTHY LIVINGBaiser Beauty

Despite its well-documented importance, self-care remains a misunderstood term by many people who associate it with luxury or self-indulgence. Generations of Americans have grown up with the notion that hard work and self-sacrifice are the most important virtues a person can exhibit. In recent years, the physical and mental fallout of that mindset has revealed some deep cracks in the old Protestant work ethic. Self-care is a far-reaching idea that doesn’t stop with your daily jog around the neighborhood. It’s a commitment to caring for your mental and emotional needs and taking time to do things that energize you, activities you start thinking about when that 3:30 meeting at work makes your eyes go glassy.

A good relationship with yourself

Self-care is how you feel when you’re feeling relaxed reading a book or watching your favorite movie. It’s anything that makes you feel good about yourself and positive about your life. Self-care is something everyone needs, and if you don’t have it in your life, you feel its absence even though you may not be able to put your finger on it. Observing self-care is a way of recognizing that your needs are just as important as anyone else’s. The benefits are self-confidence and a general sense of well-being.

De-stressing

Self-care is how we alleviate the stress that comes from working every day and dealing with situations and crises that arise every now and then. This may be the most important benefit of self-care. It’s how we separate ourselves from everyday pressures so that they don’t define us. It’s why we should always work to live and not live to work, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Go natural

Spending time in nature is an excellent way to reduce stress and recalibrate your priorities. People who spend time hiking in the woods or going for a jog on the beach put themselves in an environment where contemplation and personal reflection come much easier. Interacting with nature reminds us what’s important in our lives and why there’s real value to all that pressure we deal with every day of the week. If you’re having trouble maintaining a sense of perspective, take an afternoon to walk through the woods and just let your thoughts wander free.

Sign off social media

Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are good ways to stay in touch, but they can easily become an unhealthy obsession. If you don’t believe it, consider the fact that 67 percent of smartphone owners check for messages even when their device doesn’t prompt them. Self-care sometimes means separating from the chaos of the world and focusing on yourself. Doing so means shutting off the endless stream of stimuli that comes from social media and using the time to concentrate on your thoughts and feelings. So do yourself a favor and put the mobile devices away for a few hours every week and just enjoy the contentment and satisfaction of living in the moment.

Recovery

Self-care is especially important if you’re in addiction recovery. You need time to yourself, to make sense of your life and concentrate on maintaining your sobriety. Many people in recovery find it helpful to learn meditation or take a yoga class, activities that force you to focus on your thoughts and work toward achieving inner peace.

There are many aspects of daily life that challenge our ability to cope. Some people ignore the need to seek solace in individual pursuits, and suffer for ignoring the need for self-care. It’s a pleasurable way to work off stress by focusing on yourself and on what gives you joy.

CRYSTAL CHAKRA GUIDE

HEALTHY LIVINGBaiser Beauty

In our Chakras 101 guide we gave you a crash course into the seven main chakras. Our
Crystal Chakra Guide we will delve further into each chakra and how you can get the
most out of not just your meditation, but your Baiser Beauty Products too! Crystal
Healing has origins from the Greek and Egyptians who used stones for protection and
health though much of the properties attributed to the crystals commonly used come
from the Ancient Greeks. Today, crystal healing has become widespread but in this
post we will focus on the Buddhist belief surrounding chakras.

Each chakra is believed to connect supernatural elements to the physical elements of the body and Crystals are said to work as healers because they attract negative and positive vibrations. According to each chakra, crystals are placed on their respective points on the body to
realign life-energy and aid in healing by balancing out the energy. Now where it can
get a bit tricky is which crystals to choose. There are so many, and multiple for each
chakra, that at times it can seem overwhelming and frustrating trying to pick out each
crystal. This guide is here to help streamline the process and rid any uncertainty.
Below you’ll find two crystals per chakra, but as you work with crystals more and more
you’ll discover that there are dozens of stones that may work with a single chakra and
some stones may even overlap.

Crystals are said to choose you so keeping this in mind makes the process that much
easier and more special. There are tons of great crystal shops around the world and
especially right here in Miami so take a much deserved me-day and go shopping
around. Many stores will have a large display of all the crystals they offer so you can
see and feel each one. If one catches your eye, or calls to you, listen! The crystal is
choosing you. You may even feel a warm sensation, or pulse when you touch it. If you
don’t feel anything, no worries, it just means the crystal is meant to be used
differently, like worn or placed on its specific chakra. Now you’re almost ready to
being your healing! But before you jump right in, it’s important to manifest your goals
with mantras and positive thoughts. If you approach crystals with the mindset that
they won’t work, then they wont! Try starting off each healing session by thinking
about what is it you’re seeking and looking to gain. Then, begin by with the OM
mantra, which allows energy to flow openly and freely throughout your body. Keep in
mind throughout your healing session what you hope to accomplish and when you
finish, end with the OM mantra to manifest acceptance and assent. Now you’re all
ready to begin your crystal healing! Let the positive energy flow and feel the
difference mindfulness brings.

LOVE YOURSELF MAGIC RITUAL

HEALTHY LIVINGBaiser Beauty
ritual.png

Self-love is important to living well. It influences everything in our reality, from our experiences with everyone around us, to how we cope with the problems in our life. Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that manifests into the  physical, psychological and spiritual growth. When we act in ways that expand self-love in us, we begin to accept much better our weaknesses as well as our strengths, we have less need to be victims and judge ourselves, have compassion for us and other human beings and are more aligned with our life purpose and values.

Everyone needs from time to time to re-center and  re-connect with one’s soul, this is why we want to share with you a magical and powerful ritual to feel love and share love.

You will need:

  • Journal
  • Pink Candle
  • Rose petals
  • Relaxing music
  • Essential oil
  • Paper & Pen
  • Bucket or Bath tub

You can start by putting some relaxing music to start creating your ritual and get into the vibe of unconditional love.

First you will prepare a cleansing bath that will wash away old patterns and ways, pain, fear and limited beliefs.

You can use a bath tub or a large bucket to create this purifying water.

Fill your tub or bucket with fresh clean water and toss some rose petals, add 1 tsp. of your favorite relaxing essential oil and 1 tsp. of honey. You will bathe yourself with this water. The bath is a symbolic way of washing away all of the past mistakes, regrets, guilt and any negativity that you recall experiencing.

Close your eyes and imagine a divine energy washing away all low vibrations out of your mind, body and spirit. Be thankful for every single experience that you’ve been through since you needed them in order to transform yourself into the beautiful human being that you are.

After your cleansing bath, take some time to feel present, thankful and lighter, grab your journal or notebook and write a list of all the things you are thankful for, anything and everything in your life that makes you happy and joyful, from your health, your vision, friendships, to pets, experiences, people (write at least 10).

Now in a separate piece of paper create a list of all the positive aspects you want to attract and manifest into your life (example: compassion for others and for oneself, humility, self love, happiness, the capacity to see good in everything).

After you finish your list fold the paper and place it under the pink candle, before lighting your candle, hold it with both hands and close your eyes, ask your angels and spiritual guides to cleanse the candle and to charge it with love frequencies and your desires for your highest good and spiritual path on earth, and say AND SO IT IS. Feel thankful and light your candle, observe the light and feel how you are protected at all times, full of love and empower yourself by truly knowing in your heart how worthy you are of feeling happy, fulfilled and balanced.

Let your candle burn and once its done, keep the list you made as a way of holding on to the love frequency that you wished for and make sure to read your gratitude list from time to time.
